WordPress 2.5 Stable Release
Well its finally been released after six months in development and extensive Beta testing its (drum roll) WordPress 2.5.
It comes with a host of new features that have all come about purely from user feedback but the biggest change is the new look dashboard.
Full details can be found here : http://wordpress.org/development/2008/03/wordpress-25-brecker/
Some of the new things are: multi-file uploading, one-click plugin upgrades, built-in galleries, customizable dashboard, salted passwords and cookie encryption, media library, a WYSIWYG that doesn’t mess with your code, concurrent post editing protection, full-screen writing, and search that covers posts and pages.

There is also a preview and screen shots available here : http://wordpress.org/development/2008/03/25-sneak-peek/
I have not yet decided if to manually upgrade or wait until the upgrade option is available on my fantastico panel. I might try a manual upgrade on one of my other blogs. I will let you know how it went.

Hey Mate,
I updated my blogs yesterday. The manual way was very simple. I merely used a ftp client and copied over all the wordpress 2.5 files to the old site with the exception of the wp-content folder. I noticed in the 2.5 there was basically no difference in wp-content and I didn’t want to risk losing custom changes to themes.
After uploading the new wordpress, I went to my admin panel and got an update screen. In about 2 mins … voila it was all updated. Easy as cake.
Good luck,
dale
